More of the story…
We know how to take a mile-long walk. We simply walk to our mailbox. It’s a half mile from our front gate (and a full mile round trip), mostly uphill on the way there, and it has become part of our daily routine out here in the country. It’s also a fun little detail to explain to delivery companies when they want us to “just come sign for a package.”
This dirt road is one of the quiet gifts of country life—peaceful, unrushed, and the perfect place to take a deep breath, look around, and remember why we chose wide open spaces in the first place.

Powering Life at Terra Hill Farm
Not far from this quiet stretch of road, another kind of journey is always underway. What started as a practical need for reliable power has grown into Michael’s passion for DIY solar and energy independence. From ground mounts and battery systems to problem-solving the things most videos skip over, he’s learning, building, adjusting, and doing it all hands-on.
Those projects—and the real-life lessons that come with them—are shared on the Two Steps from Off-Grid YouTube channel. It’s where we document the wins, the challenges, and the moments when things don’t go exactly as planned, all in the spirit of helping others take their own steps toward resilient, off-grid living.

Growing Food at Terra Hill Farm
Glenna is always growing something around here—and she’s not picky about the method. You’ll find her growing food hydroponically in the shop, planting in raised beds outside, and digging right into the good old Central Texas soil whenever the season is right.
We also love experimenting with unique and unusual vegetables you don’t always see at the grocery store. Some are delicious surprises, and some are “learning experiences” we laugh about later.
And yes—we even grow pumpkins (and other winter squash) so we can cook them down into homemade pumpkin purée for the pups. Because at Terra Hill Farm, the garden doesn’t just feed us… it feeds the whole crew.
